This is my review of the Tortis Metrocard Holder. Tortis generously sent me a review copy of their product, and after trying it out for a couple weeks, I can say it's a well-made product that will be genuinely useful to many New York City subway riders.
The Tortis is a thin, clear plastic rectangle slightly larger than a New York City Metrocard. It's attractively designed, and can hold your Metrocards, plus one additional item like a subway map. Helpfully, a subway map comes included with the Tortis.
The Tortis is quite thin, so don't expect to stuff your whole wallet in there. Plan on it holding one item in addition to your Metrocards. If you remove the map, the slot could fit a driver's license, a credit card, or a building ID instead.
The Tortis is easy to use. There is a thumb notch on the face of the holder that makes it easy to slide the Metrocard out fluidly when you arrive at the turnstile. There's a slot along the long edge to slide your Metrocard back into the holder.
Since the Tortis is only slightly larger than a Metrocard, it's easy to keep in your pocket or bag. You can attach the Tortis to a lanyard, if you already wear one at work. The Tortis also comes with a retractable badge reel, which you can clip to your pocket or clothing.
The Tortis won't work for everyone. If you carry your Metrocard in one of the credit card slots of your wallet, switching to the Tortis means carrying an additional item around. The Tortis is thin, but it's still additional bulk. Of course, you might prefer carrying your Metrocard in a separate holder so you don't have to flash your wallet every time you get to the turnstile.
On the whole, I recommend the Tortis Metrocard Holder to anyone looking for a secure, attractive case for their Metrocard.
